In 1995, New Hampshire Sen. Judd Gregg won $853,492 in a Powerball jackpot. At the time, he was chairman of the Senate Budget Committee and listed between $2.5 million and $9 million in assets on his financial disclosure form.

This is Gregg’s (hopefully tongue-in-cheek) response to the windfall: “I’m truly deserving… I feel this is the result of my ability and talent.” He went on to say that he’d be spending the majority of the money on himself.
