That’s exactly what happened in 2005, when 110 people matched 5 of the 6 numbers (22, 28, 32, 33, 39) for a second-place pot of $100,000 to $500,000 each, depending on how much they had bet.
Was cheating the culprit? Nope. It turns out all the winners had gotten their numbers from fortune cookies, and all those cookies came from the same factory in Queens, NY. The factory’s owner said “That’s very nice, 110 people won the lottery from the numbers.”
