Scientology, created by L. Ron Hubbard in 1954, is one of the world’s most secretive and mysterious religions.
Even the location of its heavily-guarded headquarters (called The Gold Base) — somewhere in unincorporated Riverside County, California — is not divulged to most of its practicing members.

Famous folks who have left Scientology, including Katie Holmes and Leah Remini, have voiced their displeasure with the church and its unusual, sometimes downright bizarre tenets.
