Ariel Winter, the raven-haired actress most famous for playing Alex Dunphy on the hit TV series Modern Family, took to the red carpet at the SAG Awards with an unusual accessory. Winter, 18, displayed some new scars from a recent breast reduction surgery.
Last year, Winter sat down for an interview with Glamour Magazine, in which she opened up about her struggles as a large-breasted teen.
“It really did happen overnight,” Winter said. “I remember being in my sister’s wedding and being so flat and thinking, ‘I just wish I would grow boobs!’ and then overnight I did. But then they kept growing and growing and growing and it didn’t seem like they were going to stop. I was 15 years old with [size] F [breasts]. It’s like, ‘How do you navigate that?’”

The surgery reduced the petite 5’1″ actress’ chest from a 32 F to a 34 D.
Winter knew the scars would cause stares and whispers on the red carpet, but she wore them proudly and is now being hailed as a role model for women everywhere who struggle with body confidence. After the event, she tweeted “Guys there is a reason I didn’t make an effort to cover up my scars! They are part of me and I’m not ashamed of them at all.”
