1. Murder?!
This is the most extreme case here, but it’s an important one to include because it highlights just how scary Ambien’s effects can be.
In 2009, a 45-year old man named Robert Stewart opened fire at a nursing home in North Carolina. He left eight people dead and two wounded.
His target was his estranged wife, who was unharmed in the incident.

Despite the premeditated nature of the crime, Stewart’s defense team successfully countered that since he was under the influence of Ambien at the time of the shooting, he was not in control of his actions.
That’s a very serious side effect.
