7. Elvis Costello

During the December 17, 1977 show, Elvis Costello and the Attractions began playing their hit song “Less Than Zero.” Shortly afterward, Costello waved at the band and shouted, “Stop! I’m sorry ladies and gentlemen, there’s no reason to do this song here.”
The band then played their song “Radio Radio,” which their record label had specifically told them not to do, as the single hadn’t been released yet. Although the dispute was between Costello and his label, the act still earned him a ban from Michaels.
However, in 1989, Costello was invited back to the show — his ban wasn’t permanent. He even parodied his earlier stunt on this show by interrupting the Beastie Boys’ performance of “Sabotage,” and morphed it into a joint performance of “Radio Radio.”
