5. Chevy Chase
Somehow, Chevy Chase appears on both the “Five-Timers Club” roster as well as on the “banned” list.
Chase was one of the original cast members and was also the first cast member to be banned from the show. Notorious for being difficult to work with, Chase is said to be verbally abusive to SNL’s cast and crew. “In 1985, for example, he suggested a sketch where openly gay cast member Terry Sweeney had AIDS, and the sketch showed viewers how much weight he lost every week.”

After he hosted the February 15, 1997 show, he was banned because of his outlandish behavior during rehearsal week. At one point, he even slapped cast member Cheri O’Teri in the back of her head, causing a livid Will Ferrell to report the behavior to Lorne Michaels.
Interestingly, Chase has made several appearances on SNL since then. Perhaps his was only a temporary ban.
Here’s Chase’s original screen test for the show, in 1976.
