Retail giant Target was involved in a 2013 credit card breach affecting tens of millions of consumers. And if that wasn’t bad enough news for Target customers, in 2015 the chain was also found guilty of overcharging at the register (not honoring sale prices, etc) in several San Diego-area locations. Specifically, Target was caught overcharging on 10.3% of the items purchased by secret shoppers.
Though the company admitted no wrongdoing, it paid nearly $4 million in fines and established new compliance procedures to help ensure price accuracy.
