In 1989, a mentally ill man named Kenneth Noid held two employees of an Atlanta Domino’s restaurant hostage for over five hours. The reason? He thought Domino’s popular mascot “The Noid” was a personal attack against him.

Noid forced the employees to make him a pizza, and demanded $100,000 along with getaway transportation and a copy of a book called The Widow’s Son.

He was later found not guilty by reason of insanity, and ended up committing suicide in 1995.

The incident caused Domino’s Pizza to discontinue advertising using the Noid as their mascot.
