Turns out footballs aren’t made from “pig’s skin” after all. It takes the hides of 22 cows to supply the footballs for a single NFL Super Bowl.

If every cowhide makes about 10 balls, that means approximately 3,000 cows will be headed to the slaughterhouse to provide footballs for an entire season. And that doesn’t even take players’ shoes and other leather equipment into consideration.

That’s a whole lot of dead cows.
